United stretched their lead at the top of the table to nine points after a hard-fought victory over City at Old Trafford.

Wayne Rooney slotted home after just six minutes after being set up by Cristiano Ronaldo, before Louis Saha doubled the lead on the stroke of half-time.

The visitors were handed a lifeline on 72 minutes when Hatem Trabelsi fired past Edwin van der Sar, but Ronaldo made sure of the victory six minutes from time when he volleyed home from five yards. City's misery was compounded by the dismissal of Bernardo Corradi who picked up a second yellow for diving in the area.

The Reds would later go on to be crowned champions for the first time since 2003.

Paul Scholes' headed double provided the backbone for United's 50th league victory over City.
The majestic midfielder took only seven minutes to nod past former England colleague David Seaman and Ruud van Nistelrooy extended the advantage to put the Reds firmly in the driving seat at half time.


Shaun Wright-Phillips pulled one back after a solo run and shot past Tim Howard but Scholes made sure of the three points when rising to convert a Kleberson centre. As he lay on the deck with his arms outstretched, he was engulfed by his appreciative team-mates.
The victory meant United were only a point behind leaders Arsenal but the FA Cup was the only trophy in the cabinet at the end of the campaign with Sir Alex's side eventually finishing 15 points adrift of Arsene Wenger's 'Invincibles'.

For the first time since the highly successful 2007/08 campaign, Manchester United have a green goalkeeper's kit.

And to celebrate the return of the custodians' traditional colour, we're giving fans who purchase the kit (between now and 16 October, either at Old Trafford's Megastore or through the official online shop) the chance to take part in a special training session at Carrington with Reds goalkeeper coach Eric Steele. Goalkeeper News - Manchester United reserve goalkeeper, Anders Lindegaard was sure he could compete with goalkeeper De Gea. He also believes the manager is always encouraging and a chance for him.

Currently, Lindegaard often get the chance to play in the league cup competitions. With the opportunity that not many of course he will take advantage of that opportunity.

In an interview on the official page Manchester United, Lindegaard expressed his desire to become the number one goalkeeper in Manchester United. He also expressed his belief that the club will give him plenty of opportunities to play.
